The deity of Sri Padmavati was taken on ‘Kalpa Vriksha Vahanam’ around the Tiruchanur temple here on Monday, the fourth day of the annual Kartheeka Brahmotsavam currently under way.

To enact the scene of the goddess having a pleasure ride under the ‘wish fulfilling tree’, the deity was made to sit on the dazzling golden carrier resembling a tree, with a variety of fruits and flowers hanging all over its branches.

Mythology

According to the mythology, the Kalpa Vriksha was born during the churning of the milky ocean, along with Goddess Lakshmi and is hence considered her sibling.

Accompanied by family members, Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah offered prayers at the temple. TTD Chairman K. Bapi Raju and Joint Executive Officer Pola Bhaskar presented ‘Prasadam’ to him.

Silk saris offered

Meanwhile, devotees Krupakar Rao and Indira of Tiruchanur donated six silk saris to the Goddess on the occasion.

Mr. Bapi Raju later released an audio compact disc titled ‘Bhakti Sundaram Bhaja Govindam’ sung by vocalist Sabari Girish.

In the evening, the deity was taken on ‘Hanumantha Vahanam’ around the streets encircling the temple.

Padmavathi in this case was described by scholars as Sita being carried back by Hanuman from Lanka to Ayodhya.
