Army job rally


An Army recruitment rally will be organised by the Army Recruiting Office, Visakhapatnam, at Vizianagaram from March 1 to 9.

Eligible youths native of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts and Yanam (Puducherry) will be screened for enrollment into Army.

The candidates will be screened for soldier general duty, soldier technical, soldier technical (aviation and ammunition examiner), nursing assistant/ soldier technical (dresser), soldier tradesman (all arms), soldier clerk/store keeper technical trades and for enrollment into Defense Service Corps (only for ex-serviceman). Aids distribution camps in Vizianagaram district


Additional Joint Collector U.C.G. Nageswara Rao has said in a release that four camps for distribution of wheel- chairs, tricycles, calipers, elbow sticks, and hearing aids to the physically challenged people would be conducted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kurupam on January 21, Ramabhadrapuram on January 22, Nellimarla on January 24, and S. Kota on January 25.

GSIB to organise business quiz


GITAM School of International Business is organising a business quiz for college students of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, and Guntur districts, between January 6 and 31.

The quiz is meant to promote awareness among undergraduate students about business in general and international business in particular, according to a press release from the GISB.

The quiz will be conducted in two rounds. The first round will be held at various colleges and institutions to select five winners. The second round is the grand finale to be held on GITAM campus on February 7.

The first, second, and third prize winners of the final will be presented with cash awards, merit certificates, and citations. The first round winners will receive participation certificates.

The quiz programmes at the college level and the grand finale level will be organised by personality trainer and business consultant Winny Patro.

Students of engineering, pharmacy, business, and degree colleges in the seven districts are eligible to participate.

The special bus will leave the RTC Complex at 7:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Passengers at the Dwaraka Bus Station (RTC Complex) were in a for a pleasant surprise on New Year Day as an announcement was made on the public address system asking them to join in the celebrations. A family from Vizianagaram was randomly selected to cut the cake as other passengers and RTC officials participated.

A representative of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba temple of East Point Colony gave a spiritual touch and distributed 500 laddus (prasadam) to the passengers and others.

Action plan

Addressing the passengers, Executive Director (Vizianagaram Zone) A. Ramakrishna said that an action plan was prepared to provide cleanliness in the buses and at the bus stations this year and appealed to them to patronise the corporation more.

As a New Year gift to the passengers, an Araku tour package was being launched on January 5. The special bus would leave the RTC Complex at 7:30 a.m. on Sundays and take the passengers on a visit to the Borra Caves, Anantagiri coffee plantations, Araku, Tribal Museum, Padmapuram Gardens and some other places of interest in the Agency areas.

Special ‘Dhimsa’

The fare for the Araku package tour was fixed at Rs.674 (Deluxe) and Rs.596 (Express) for adults and Rs.534 (Deluxe) and Rs.467 (Express) for children. The fare includes free entry to the Borra Caves, Tribal Museum and Padmapuram Gardens, free lunch, tea and snacks. A special attraction as part of the tour would be a specially arranged ‘Dhimsa’ dance. The bus would return to the city by 9:00 p.m. the same day.

Mr. Ramakrishna said that special emphasis would be given on operation of ‘Palle Velugu’ (rural services) in tune with the needs of the passengers and to increase the occupancy ratio (OR).

Regional Manager Y. Jagadeesh Babu, Deputy Chief Traffic Managers P. Jeevan Prasad (rural) and A. Veeraiah Choudhary (urban) were present.

Later addressing the media, Mr. Ramakrishna said that a Super Luxury bus and an Indra (AC) bus to Hyderabad would be diverted through Steel Plant township and Atchutapuram for the convenience of passengers going from those areas.

Mr. Jagadeesh Babu said that special buses would be operated to Pydi Bhimavaram, Duvvada SEZ and Pharma City to tap the industrial workers, who were now depending on private transport for their transportation needs. He said that 105 new JNNURM buses were expected to arrive in the city by the end of March. A proposal was on the cards to introduce vehicle tracking system (GPS) on these buses to enable passengers to know the position of the buses and their time of arrival.

IGNOU admission last date extended


Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended last date for admission to its January 2014 session from December 31 to January 15.

Applications are invited for masters, degree, postgraduate diploma, diploma, certificate and awareness programmes with late fees of Rs. 500. According to IGNOU Regional Director S. Raja Rao, admissions are open for Master’s programmes like M.Com, MSW and MA in rural development, tourism management, English, Hindi, philosophy, education and political science.
