The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Kodandarama Swamy began on a grand note here on Wednesday with the auspicious ‘Dhwajarohana Mahotsavam’ marking the beginning of the nine-day fête.
The event was held in ‘Mesha Lagnam’ from 9 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., amid the chanting of Vedic hymns. A flag bearing the celestial carrier of Lord Vishnu — Garuda — was hoisted on the temple flag mast signalling and inviting the deities (of the 14 ‘lokas’) to take part in the ‘Navahnika Brahmotsavams’. This was later followed by ‘Asthanam’ and ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ (Celestial Bath).
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Joint Executive Officer (Tirupati) Pola Bhaskar, who took part in the event, said that elaborate arrangements were made for smooth conduct of the much awaited religious fête.
