Religious fervour marked the annual fête of Pushpayagam, which was performed with a wide assortment of flowers at Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram, here on Tuesday.

The devotees were in for a visual delight as over seven tonnes of flowers including ornamental, aromatic and traditional ones were used in the festival of flowers. The celestial event displayed the grandeur of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy as the presiding deities were immersed with beautiful flowers, during the floral bath.

Earlier in the day, Snapana Tirumanjanam (celestial bath) was performed to the deities and later in the afternoon different varieties of flowers were taken in a procession from the Vahana Mandapam to the Temple, before the floral tribute.

According to scriptures, the festival is performed to propitiate the Lord and save the Earth (and its life forms) from natural calamities.
