Guarding themselves with protective gear and holding disposable bags, an army of 15 members of the Junior Chamber International-Vizag Port City chapter spotted a location on the Beach Road, to conduct their beach cleaning drive and give a complete makeover on Sunday evening.
The team members, dressed in blue uniforms, picked up plastic covers, empty bottles, paper cups and a host of other leftover stuff strewn all along the stretch covering the beach opposite Matsya Darshini to Kali Mata temple. Inspired by the initiative, almost 50 volunteers joined the group. “
We came to the Beach Road to relax and unwind. But, participating in the beach cleaning drive not only relaxes us but also develops a sense of responsibility,” Vineetha, one of the volunteers who came along with her friends, said. For Bhavani and Manimala, who did their bit for the cause, it was the most exciting evening. “We never thought that our one-hour free time can be converted into something more meaningful. We want to share this experience with our friends and motivate them to take up similar drive in future,” they said. Among 30 people who came forward to render the service, Akshara, Class IV girl, also contributed to the campaign.
President of JCI-Vizag Port City chapter P. Rajita said: “It should be an on-going drive. Each time we will spot a particular location and pool our representatives, friends and family members to join the endeavour.”
Chapter’s vice-president Ravi Kiran said “our mission will be worthwhile if we could reach out to more people each time and bring awareness on the concept of maintaining our environment clean.”
