The radiant smile will be back on the lips of 20 children who would be undergoing corrective cleft lip surgery in the next one week.
Smile Care Foundation and Research Institute (SCFRI), a non-profit organisation, will be conducting the free surgeries on these children who hail from the economically weaker section.
The surgeries are being conducted in association with Telugu Association of North America (TANA).
The entire cost, amounting to Rs.3 lakh, is being borne by the TANA, said Y. Siva Nagendra Reddy, managing trustee of SCFRI.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, TANA chairman Talluri Jayasekhar said that the cleft lip surgery programme was adopted in 2013.
“In 2013, we conducted 11 surgeries and in this year we will be sponsoring 20 surgeries. Our idea is to make it a national programme, with the aim of eradicating it like polio,” he said.
