Murrah buffaloes and cross-breed cows of Reddy Veera Venkata Satyanaryana Murthy of Gummaleru in East Godvari won two first prizes – Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000 – at the State-level milk yield competitions that concluded here on Sunday evening. Mr. Murthy’s cross-breed cow gives a total of 31.04 litres of milk a day.
The event was rganised by the East Godavari Animal Husbandry department and Mandapeta Milk Producers’ Association, with the support of AP Livestock development Agency. Dr. D. Venkateswarlu, Director, Animal Husbandry Department, gave away prizes, and Dr. M. Ramkoteswararao, Assistant Director, East Godavari, announced the winners list. The competitions were conducted in three categories – Murrah buffalo, Ongole cows and cross-breed cows – and in each category, four prizes were given away, ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs.10,000. Ch. Narasimha Rao’s Ongole cow, which gives 14. 90 litres a day, won the first prize of Rs. 50,000 in the category.
