Appeal to abstain from using chemical colours
Enthusiasm marked the traditional holi pooja by the Rajasthani community on the beach here on Sunday. It all began with ‘thandi holi ka poojan’ at RK Beach worshipping with ‘badkula’ (garland of cow dung cakes), ears of wheat and a branch of tree. In the evening ‘Holika dahan’ was performed amid a riot of colours. Organised by Rajasthani Sankritic Mandal, the ‘thandi holi ka poojan’ by traditional offerings and pouring of water on the tree branch and later bonfire was witnessed by hundreds of Rajasthanis.
“Holi one of the greatest festivals for us as it is commemorated the triumph of truth over untruth. Men, women and children all take part in this traditional festival,” said Rajasthani Sanskritic Mandal president Chandmal Agarwal.
He told The Hindu that they had told all their members to abstain from using chemical colours. “We have taken the pledge to play holi with traditional gulal colour and not splash it on those who are not interested,” he said.
