Likely to touch 4-lakh mark this year
The bifurcation of the State and crowded election schedules have had no impact on the interest surrounding Eamcet as the number of applicants has crossed the one-lakh mark.
As on Thursday evening, 1,21,660 candidates have applied for the test, which is conducted for entry into engineering, agriculture and medical courses.
Boys outnumber girls
Of the applicants, boys numbered 60,955 and girl-applicants 60,707, Eamcet convenor N.V. Ramana Rao said on Thursday evening.
Among the applicants 86,597 candidates chose the engineering paper while 34,484 the medicine paper.
As expected, girls have shown more interest in the medical paper, with 23,610 of them applying as against 10,873 boys.
Though boys dominated the engineering stream with 49,771 applications, girls follow closely with 36,826 applications. Around 600 students have applied for both exams.
Prof. Rao said the number is likely to cross four lakh this year as more Intermediate students have opted for mathematics and biology courses. Around 10,000 additional students had opted for the two streams this year. Last year 3.90 lakh candidates appeared for the test.
Around 4.30 lakh Intermediate students are in the MPC stream this year and 1.56 lakh in the BiPC stream.
Generally, around 68 per cent of MPC students appear for Eamcet’s engineering exam while 70 per cent of BiPC students take the medical test, Prof. Rao said.
The maximum number of applications have come from Zone V of Hyderabad (Osmania University surrounding areas, Ramanthapur, Vidyanagar, Amberpet, Nacharam, Habsiguda, Nagole, Tarnaka, LB Nagar, Uppal) followed by Visakhapatnam. Zone 1 of Hyderabad (Kukatpally surrounding areas, Pragathinagar, Chandanagar, Nizampet, BHEL, Bachupally, Patancheru) followed with the number touching 8,500.
This year, Hyderabad has been divided into eight zones for the convenience of students and examination centres would be allotted in the same zone.
