AU convocation today

The 80thy and 81 st Convocation of Andhra University will be held at the Convocation Hall on AU campus here on Monday afternoon.

Governor and Chancellor of the university E.S.L. Narasimhan is not attending the convocation due to present situation in Hyderabad. This was confirmed by the university authorities on Sunday.

As many as 746 scholars would receive their Ph.D. degrees during the convocation. M.Phil. degrees would be presented to 61. Chairman of Board of Governors of IIT-Madras B.V.R. Mohan Reddy will deliver the convocation address. AU is conferring an honorary degree on him.

All arrangements are in place for the convocation and Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju along with Rector E.A. Narayana, Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao, principals of campus colleges and other officials inspected the arrangements on Sunday.

This year the number of invitations for guests has been restricted since a large number of candidates will be receiving their Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees as this Convocation is a combined one, Prof. Rama Mohana Rao informed.

The convocation will begin at 3.30 p.m. and would last for nearly two hours. Those receiving degrees have to reach the venue by 2.30 p.m.

Entry of vehicles into the area around Convocation Hall will be restricted from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., informed Dean (security wing) T. Venkata Krishna. Cars have to the parked near the Assembly Hall, Arts College, Telugu and Psychology departments and two-wheelers near Library, statistics and food and nutrition departments.
