Sangeeta Vidhya Nidhi title conferred on Hyderabad sisters
Music has myriad dimensions and its prime purpose is to elevate the man from mundane to higher planes in life. It serves as perfect means for self realisation, spiritualist Sadguru K. Sivananda Murthy of Bheemili observed during the inaugural function of a five-day annual festival of music and dance of Andhra Music Academy here on Friday.
The academy, to mark its 14th anniversary conferred Sangeeta Vidhya Nidhi title on Hyderabad-based renowned vocalist duo Lalita and Haripriya. Sadguru Sivananda Murthy and Chairman Telugu Official Language Commission Mandali Buddha Prasad presented the award consisting of Rs. 75,000 in cash, gold medal, citation and memento and honoured the vocalists.
Noted musician Sangeetha Kalanidhi Nedunuri Krishna Murthy said that it was befitting to honour the vocalist duo with this award in recognition of their remarkable contribution in the realm of classical music and complimented the duo on this count.
Elucidating the origin of devotional and Bhajan Sampradaya genres of music in South India and particularly in our State, he emphasised the importance of music in our lives.
Principle Secretary (health) of Andhra Pradesh L.V. Subrahmanyam, former DGP and president of the academy R. Prabhakar Rao, secretary P.V. Seshayya Sastry and others participated. Later, a vocal concert of the duo enthralled the music lovers.
