Number of persons losing lives across the world on account of cancer is growing day-by-day and people should take precautionary measures to keep it at bay, said yoga exponent R. Ranganath Reddy said on Tuesday.
Speaking at an awareness programme on cancer at Mitra Yoga Centre here, Dr. Ranganatha Reddy urged people addicted to alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco to kick the habit as they could cause cancer. Excessive use of refined edible oils also causes colon cancer.
Yoga and performing Surya namaskaram help cancer patients by strengthening muscles and reducing physical stress in the first phase, he said. In the second phase, pranayamam and yoganidra helps to boost self-confidence among cancer patients and remove the fear of death and help them live a little longer, Dr. Ranganatha Reddy said.
Practising yogasana and pranayamam for about 40 to 50 minutes every day were helping in preventing the dangerous affects of cancer, he said.
