The deities of Sri Yadagirigutta Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and his consort will be coated with gold on February 12 amid the rituals.
According to sources in the temple, the presiding deities in the sanctum sanctorum were believed to have been installed in 1936. The Swamy’s deity was made with silver and his consort’s deity was prepared with Panchalohas, but the difference in metals used is not known to outsiders except a few insiders in temple till today.
A devotee from Hyderabad has offered to bear the entire cost. The temple administration had decided to install the gold coated idols after obtaining suggestions from Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji. They also sought his views on whether the Agama Sastras permits them to replace the deities.
Starting February 5 , the temple will perform various rituals following the Agama sastra procedures to replace the deities. The Pratistapana Utsavams begin on February 9 and the deities will be replaced on February 12.
