Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy said the Government was striving to provide marketing facilities to handloom weavers thereby helping them realise better prices. He was speaking after inaugurating the National Handloom Expo at PWD Grounds here on Saturday.
On the occasion, he said handlooms was the second biggest sector in terms of people employed after agriculture and it required due priority.
Efforts are being made to improve the plight of the huge number of workers dependent on the sector.
It is highly appreciable that nearly 200 handloom weavers’ cooperative societies from across the country put up their stalls on the sprawling grounds, the Minister said.
