The Haj process in the State will commence next month with the issue of application forms. Intending pilgrims can apply from February 1 to March 15 under the general category. All applications have to be accompanied by passports which are valid till March 2015.
The Haj Committee of India has released the action plan for Haj-2014 indicating tentative dates for various stages of the Haj process. It has asked the State Haj Committees to adhere to the dates mentioned as any delay in the calendar of activities will hamper the overall Haj management.
Journey in May
As per the plan, selection of pilgrims through ‘qurrah’ (draw of lots) will be held in the middle of April. Selected applicants have to make payment of the advance amount of Rs. 81,000 towards the Haj journey by the third week of May.
According to Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Special Officer, State Haj Committee, the last date for payment of balance amount by pilgrims through the core banking system is June 20. Pilgrims will be intimated their flight schedule in July while the chartered Haj flights will commence on August 27.
The last Haj flight from India to Saudi Arabia will take off on September 29. As of now, the ‘Arafat day’, the high point of Haj, is scheduled on October 4.
The return charter flights will start on October 9.
An all-India Haj conference will be held in last week of March to fine-tune the arrangements. Like in the past, there will be two reserved categories this time too.
Pilgrims whose applications have been rejected during the last three years and persons above 70 years would be selected without the ‘qurrah’ process. The septuagenarians will be allowed to have a companion along with them.
“Bifurcation of the State will not have any impact on the Haj process this year since the action plan is already notified,” Prof. Shukoor said.
