SVU to host meet on Indo-Canadian cultural ties

Sri Venkateswara University’s (SVU) Department of English in association with Indian Association for Canadian Studies will be organising a three-day international conference on ‘Cultural Spaces: Canada and India’ from January 27.

According to the English Department Head M. Narendra, the conference would mainly probe into cultural relations between the once colonised nations, India and Canada. “In addition to this, the thrust areas would be on topics like Indo-Canadian Diaspora, theory and practice of cultural spaces, cultural landscapes, spaces and heritage, digital media and cultural spaces in communication,” he maintained.

Prof. Narendra said that learning about culture would offer an analysis into human behaviour, conventional patterns of thoughts including values, beliefs and rules of conduct, that are passed from one generation to another.

The conference is being conducted to honour the varsity’s Rector M.A.K. Sukumar, who will be superannuating in April this year.
