ONGC releases Rs. 1 cr. grant to AU


‘Advanced research to be taken up in Delta Studies Institute’

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has released Rs.1 crore grant to the Delta Studies Institute of Andhra University to take up advanced research in the Institute, Andhra University Vice Chancellor G.S.N.Raju said here on Tuesday. In a statement released here Prof. Raju said that the Delta Studies Institute of Andhra University, the first of its kind in Asia, has been undertaking research in the deltas for the last 16 years.

ONGC Director Exploration Mr. Narendra K.Verma, who visited Delta Studies Institute recently, expressed happiness over the activities of Institute and sanctioned Rs.1 crore towards development of Advanced Laboratories, which are useful for both research and training programmes in petroleum science and technology of the Delta Studies Institute. These funds were sanctioned from Corporate Social Responsibility wing of ONGC, New Delhi. More funds are in the pipeline to Andhra University from ONGC.

The University would start Ph.D. in Delta Studies and other related areas for the staff of ONGC and other industries in order to extend its industry extension activities, the Vice Chancellor said.

Director of the Delta Studies Institute M.Jagannadha Rao said that the Institute has been organising training programmes for ONGC officers regularly.

The Institute already offering industry oriented research and teaching programmes like M.Tech Petroleum Exploration and Production. University Registrar K.Ramamohana Rao, Dean Academic Affairs L.D.Sudhakara Babu were present.
